Bug Bash weekend kicked off on Saturday with the Second Annual Open House and Barbecue at LaVere's VW Restoration in Concord. Quite a few nice vintage cars and lookers were in attendance, along with dozens of spectators. Gary and his crew opened the doors of the huge facility and allowed those in attendance to have an inside look at his full-service restoration and service facility, and provided a great barbecue lunch. I especially liked the walk-thru 23 window with rooftop boat. A big thank you to Gary, Denny, Jason and the rest of Lavere's crew for their hospitality.

Volkswagens blanketed just about every inch of fairgrounds lawn, and the concourse area was covered end-to-end with swappers and vendors at the California Bug Bash on June 26. A total of 227 Volkswagens and several hundred participants enjoyed a sun-drenched day in Vallejo, some driving from as far as southern California and Nevada for this get-together.

A huge variety of vehicles ranging from drag racers to restored classics, air and water-cooled alike were spread out as far as the eye could see. Business was booming throughout the large swap meet, with lots of good deals to be found. The gate staff reported lots of items being carried out to the parking lot all day long. Families with kids of all ages were seen relaxing all over the property, and kids enjoyed the temporary tattoos and coloring area.

The car show had a total of 88 vehicles registered entries, and was judged by people’s choice ballot.

The end-of-the-day raffle was excellent, with dozens of great prizes from our sponsors: LaVere’s VW Restoration, Vintage Warehouse, Honest Engine Midtown, Greg’s VW Service, Wolfsburg West, West Coast Metric, Bus Boys and Vintage Parts Inc. Hats off to the ever-generous sponsors who make these raffles better and better each time.
Bug Bash went off without a hitch thanks to the devoted and hard-working, double-duty crew: Marilee, Ella, Gen, Ken, Tom, Dusty, John and Diana. Thank you team!

Thank you for participating and making this our biggest and best event yet, and stay tuned for the date for Bug Bash 2012.
